TOY: Load carrying capacity / Leaf springs
For those who in the past complained that my 4Runner
was stiffly sprung - well it just got stiffer...
The National/Deavers spring pack had a broken main
leaf on the pass side and a broken #2 spring on the
drivers side. I guess 800+ lbs of DJ stuff and a few
potholes on the dirt access road to my house was a bit
too much?
I just finished installing new AOR springs. I
requested a 750+lb carrying capacity and I got it.
The rear is now about 3" over stock height and - well
a bit stiff..
I really do need the carrying capacity, but I was
wondering about trying to get the best of both worlds.
The thought was to use Firestone Airbags between the
spring and the frame.
This would require removal of the stock "striker" on
the frame as well as some frame welding (now that I
have located a good welder - this isnt such a bid deal
any more) and some bolt on stuff on the spring pads.
Anyone try this?
Is this idea just wacked?
