Re: TOY: Weber 32/36 carb installed -got some Q's
Those little filters that are made for them are too
small and too short to get a proper air entry radius
into the carb. I know things are tight in there
though. Have a look at the whole filter can found on
Olds 403's and 455's in Toronados. This has a fairly
short carb flange to lid dimension while also having a
14" x ~2" diameter fully enclosed filter element.
FWIW, MISF runs one of these on a 392 ci in his Scout,
ducted to the cowl with H2O diversion baffles. His K&N
rarely needs cleaning and he has never seen dirt in
the intake.
Another junkyard option would to build a remote filter
adapter and use the filter can assembly from a Fiero
V6.
I built the adapter on the DB. It starts out with the
DGV's (32/36) filter flange, comes straight up to the
top of the air horns, then tapers off to a 2.5" tube
in about 5". No hood clearence issues there. My bowl
vent tube comes up even further. It's always an issue
to not twank the tube when I'm putting the adapter
back on, but I've never had a fuel slosh problem so
it's worth it.
