TOY: Sticky Head Bolts
Sticky Head bolts are a VERY common problem...
The Exhaust side more than the intake, the rear more
than the front.
If I remember right the one betweent eh #3 and #4
pistons ont eh exhaust side passes through the EGR
passages that are cast into the head - hence the crud
buildup.
I would NOT use Castrol Super clean.
Id use some type of petrol based solution to dissolve
the crud as much as possible.
You can use Liquid Wrench.
I use Kerosene or Diesel (I have home heating oil so
its pretty easy to fish out a few drops from the tank
- tho I use the Kero I keep handy)
Youl'' need to clean the threads in the block as well
as the head. A "tap" is the preferred method although
the JIC pitch is kinda hard to find (12mm x 1.25 I
think). Someone on one of the Toy lists suggested
cutting/milling a slot into an old head bolt and using
that the "chase" the crud out of the block. Soak the
holes in kero for a while to soften it all up.
Head work seems to be a common thread these days...
