ToySUV: EC4RJ suggestion: Move it to VA?
I've been doing some research and would like to put something before those
interested in attending the East Coast
4R jamboree. I'd like to suggest moving it to the George Washington National
Forest in Virginia.
I have a few reasons for this suggestion:
1) Proximity to towns and facilities for those not wishing to camp. We could HQ
it near Harrisonburg, Charlottesville, or
some other decent-sized town.
2) Cost. Rocky Gap will be very expensive for camping, the chalet or resort, and
for a group site or pavilion. GWNF
would be very inexpensive.
3) Restrictions at Rocky Gap - on pets, where you can go and what you can do,
etc.
4) Trails. GWNF offers much more in terms of trailriding for those interested:
enough that we could have 2 or more groups.
There may be opportunities to find a track or other activities since we have so
many people on the board who are near
that area. This could aid planning a great deal as well.
As far as driving, GWNF would be a shorter drive for those coming from the
south. It may be an hour or so additional for
those coming from the north, and it's an hour or 2 longer for those of us coming
from the west/NW of the area.
Please let me know what you think. I don't mean to "monopolize" the planning of
this event. But in trying to accomodate
all interests, this seems to make more sense.
If this change is acceptable, I will go down at least twice before the gathering
to scout. I already have one trip set up for
the first weekend in March to do this.
