I had the same problem. Everybody that I talked to that had a rebuilt engine had
problems. I decided to buy a new short block from toyota, I bought a rebuilt head
from a local machine shop. I put everything together and it has been working ok
for my first 600 miles. The block was pretty expensive at $1500.
