TOY: Re: intro/Engine Questions
The 22r-re-re-t motors make alot of valvetrain noise. Here is how to check
the timiming chain for wear.
Remove the
valve cover so you can see your cam sprocket. Use a 19mm socket on a
breaker bar on the crank bolt to rotate around till your timing pointer
is at 0 (TDC). Reverse the direction on the crank and stop the moment
you see the cam sprocket begin to move...look at the timing pointer and
see how many degrees you moved the crank. This is the degrees of "play"
in your timing chain. I think you rotate clockwise, then reverse
counter clockwise so it's easy to read from your timing pointer, but it
will be obvious when you look at it :^) I think Tim said that 5* or
6* should be max...mine was over 10*...after doing the chain it was 0*.
And welcome to the list! I love rotory motors too, now make me an adpter to
replace the 22re with a rotory!
P.S. what state do you reside in? I'm in Ca.
