TOY: High Idle Speed

Does anyone have any idea why a 22R-E would start to idle suddelny at
higher speeds? The factory specs list the idle at 750RPM... tach is
showing 1500-2000 at idle at most stops.

It doesn't seem to matter how long its been run, even after 30 minutes
on the freeway, it just idles really high. Occasionally it will drop to
about 1100, but that's as slow as I've ever seen it. It also smells like
it is running rich... which is almost definitley related.

I got a check engine light a while back (drowning your truck up to the
hood will do that) but it went out...yet the problem remains.

1. I saw a post regarding adjustment of the TPS, could this cause it?
2. O2 sensor for the running rich problem?
3. How do I pull trouble codes from the ECU?
4. Anyone found a good price on an 89 4runner fact. service manual?
