Re: TOY: Cost of 4.3L Vortec?

I would expect to pay between $1000 and $2000. I had a call today
actually that a guy might be interested in my 1985 TBI 4.3 ltr. He
found a 1992 Vortec with 112,000 miles on it for $1000. I do not know
if this was just the engine or everything he would need. I paid $1400
for everything I needed off of the vehicle for my engine.
Mike Dixons reply for cost is good. Expect $2000-$3000 plus engine.
(not including labor)
I used a NV4500 behind my engine, you would think being Chevy it would
be cheaper because no adapters to the engine.
The Factory bellhousing, clutch, flywheel, slave and master cylinders
ran around $800.
Also, there are a lot of little items, fittings, hose, supplies that
will probably run up to $500. I used all of the Toyota gauges.
It does not look like it is needed but I installed a Chevy fuel pump in
my tank, redid the fuel lines to 3/8 line.
If you have a body lift I would recommend the NWOR motor mounts. I used
them but do not have a body lift so I had to modify the frame mounts. I
also already had the adapter for the transfer case.

I also used the Factory wiring, modified to work in my truck. An
aftermarket wiring harness is between $350 and $700.
I found a good radiator for $215 but need access to a TIG welder to weld
on some tabs.

After all said and done (well not quite done but running and driveable)
it is well worth it.
