| As easy as it is to unbolt a Driveshaft I would just pop the thing out and
| throw it back in when you get there. It is the surest way of avoiding wear.
| My wife has pulled the drive shaft on our truck so anyone can do it, unless
| there is a difficulty with 4Runners that I am unaware of.
|
| The coat hanger would work... but, what if one breaks? You definitely don't
| want to drag a drive shaft down the highway. Not to mention I have heard
| nasty stories about driveshafts getting disconnected at both the diff and
| the trans.
==> Good point, thanks it slipped my mind about just removeing the DS and then
reinstall it when through towing. Yes, and *perish* the thought of the DS
draging on
the pavement and producing "sparks" (not good). :-o
I knew that the "collective" would have some good answers. ;-)
Thanks,
Dee

| Hi Folks,
|
| I plan to tow a 1984 Toyota 4Runner, 22R with 5 speed manual transmission.
| 230 miles tomorrow, (Saturday)....
| I heard somewhere for a long distance haul of this type the rear driveshaft
| should be disconnected to spare / protect the bearings in the transmission.
|
| My question is: Should just I remove the 4 bolts that secure the DS to the
| rear Diff. and then using some coat hanger wire secure the DS to the
undercarriage?
