TOY: Towing an '84 4Runner ?
Hi Folks,
I plan to tow a 1984 Toyota 4Runner, 22R with 5 speed manual transmission.
230 miles tomorrow, (Saturday), the method planned
is with a Tow Dolly in which the front wheels are secured to the dolly and the
rear wheels
remain in contact with the Pavement. I heard somewhere for a long distance haul
of this type
the rear driveshaft should be disconnected to spare the bearings in the
transmission.
Seeing that with the transmission, in Neutral the rear axles are still turning
and therefore the
rear driveshaft will also be turning thus causing wear on the trans. where the
DS enters it.
My question is: Should just I remove the 4 bolts that secure the DS to the rear
Diff. and
then using some coat hanger wire secure the DS to the undercarriage?
All suggestions, Hints, Clues would be great.
Thanks,
Dee
