TOY: Fuel Pump ?
Another of the many problems I dealt with this last
weekend was my in tank fuel pump.
It started making a whine that sounded very much like
an air leak...in fact that led to the discovery of a
nail in my tire, but I digress.
A few hours later just as we pulled into camp it died.
So on pulling it out that night found that the neg
ring connector had broken through (not at the wire
crimp). On attaching a new connector it worked
again...not for long as it died the next day on the
trail, but I digress again.
My question, wouldn't a broken connection making
intermittent contact potentially cause a spark(s)
inside your fuel tank? This would seem to be a bad
thing, simular to the TWA crash. Is there some kind
of design to keep the air fuel mixture in your tank
below an explosive level (10:1 or so?) or is it
trusting to chance based on how low your gas level is?
