Re: TOY: IFS 4x's

This is good. I have a friend with an '88 who runs 34x9.5 with no lift and
no problems. I don't like the tires for road though I will probably go with
BFG M/T's or some Wild Countrys ( Les Schwab ) or something along those
lines. The lift wouldn't necessarily be all for tire fitment. Where I live
the winters get very swampy and on my property it can get 2-3' deep in
spots depending on the rain. The first year out there I had 3' across my
driveway, I was stuck @ the house for 3 days. It was supposedly a 50 year
flood but it was only 2 years after 100 year flood where there was 6'
across the driveway. I'm on a hill but my drive runs about 1/4 mile across
the flat out to the road and I've seen water from the bottom of my hill all
the way to the road across the driveway. So since then I've lifted my '97
pwrstroke Ford F350 4x ( 35's ) and both my '85's. The year that the water
was 3' I could feel it floating my Ford a little bit as I drove through it,
kind of creepy feeling. I didn't do it again and since it hasn't been that
bad. I also lifted the road bed about 1' in the worst spot, talk about
$$'s.
 Thanx for the info Phil

I can help with some of your questions.

First off, you don't need an IFS lift to run 33's. I run 33x12.5x15 MT's on
my
95 4Runner with the IFS TOTALLY stock. I did not even crank the torsion
bars. I
did lift the rear 3", but not for tires. I did it because the 2nd Gen
4Runners
suffer from serious butt sag. BTW, I ran the Rubicon twice this year with
no
breakage/damage. I would invest the money in gears and a locker.

And you don't need any more than stock flex to have fun in "...sand, snow
and
some mud...". General hauling and farmwork doesn't require more flex
either.

4.88 gears and 33's with a V6 works great. Get a manual trans. It's the
best
choice for the use you've described. Also, autos in these years suck power
(personal experience here).

The 3.4 V6 came out with the Tacoma. So you'll get a 3.0 with a non-Taco
truck.
The head gasket recall would probably apply and you can check the VIN with
a
dealer.

Phil
