That's total BS... They most likely say that because their
balancing equipment is so old it can't balance to close tolerances.
I've spent a number of hours talking drive shafts with Steve Johnson
at South Bay Driveline... especially while writting that driveline
article I did early this year. Steve is appauled by the garbage
coming out of some shops, and amazed they're still using ancient
equipment to balance their shafts.
Steve lathe cuts all the tubes, so they're absolutely 'true'... his
welding is 2nd to none, and still EVERY shaft goes on the
balancer... and MOST take some weight to balance. BTW....
Steve's balancer is a new Axiline balancer... probably only 2-3
years old.
