TOY: long travel driveshaft comversion?
Got a question....
In May of 99 I ordered a supposed long travel driveshaft from Tom Woods for
the front fo my Toyota. Well, the 6.5" of slip yoke travel was not enough,
and pulled apart on the very first trip out. The splines were damaged at the
ends, and I had to swap to a spare.
Since then, I have been running my spare shaft up front - a shortened stock
rear driveshaft with about the same travel. It has pulled apart 4 times on
me, but evey time it was not damaged and was simply put back together.
So, after having this $200 Tom Woods shaft sitting in the garage for over a
year, I decide to have it sent back for a long travel conversion. I just got
off the phone with Tom, and he quoted me $150 to convert it to a 10.5" travel
shaft, and another $200 to make it a 22" travel shaft....
Hello?
Last I checked a non-CV type shaft (like I have) in a long travel from other
places BRAND NEW was not much more than that, maybe around $300?
Anyway, I am open to sugegstions on other places I can send this shaft to
have it comverted to long travel. Anyone know who will convert this shaft
for less than $150?
It is just making me mad that I ordered a supposed long travel shaft, paid
$250 only to have it pull apart the first trip out and have to pay another
$150 to have it made into a real long travel driveshaft...
BTW, last year after the shaft broke I talked to Tom who said I could send it
back and have it converted for a mere $100... wish I had not waited for
prices to increase by 50% :-(
If I can't find it for cheaper, I am gonna learn real fast how to make my own
long travel shaft using PTO components from the local tractor supplu company
;-)
All suggestions are welcome :-)
