TOY: Compression
I decided to test the compression of my 1985 22RE with close to 200,000
miles. I wanted to know before I ripped it out of my truck and sold it. I
want to make sure I am not selling a bad engine. Well, all the cylinders
were between 173 and 175psi. A little high but could be due to carbon. All
miles on dino oil.
The engine does consume oil but I think it is due to the valve guides. I
replaced the valve seals last year. I like to deaccelerate in gear and I
am thinking this is creating a vaccum which then sucks the oil through the
valve guides. Does this make sense? Or could it be the PCV system?
I didn't get time to test the compression of the Supra.
