I'm on another list in Utah and this is the latest discussion on this issue.

This is a message I received from the editor of the Vernal Express in reply to
a letter I wrote complaining about the tickets issued the weekend of the ARCA
event. I thought the list might be interested in his reply. Maybe next time
things will be better, hopefully they'll be better for those there this
weekend.

- From the local organizer in Vernal:
On that note... we talked to Jackie Felt today. She said Derk Hatch is
working on it hot and heavy, trying to get the tickets rescinded. We met
with the Roosevelt Chief of Police today, and he said he would meet with his
officers Wednesday and tell them to take it easy. We are meeting with the
Lieutenant of the HP in this area tomorrow (hopefully). We'll try to get it
resolved ASAP. An interesting comment I heard -- the tickets that were given
by the event sight are not valid because it was on Indian land, and the road
was an access avenue to Indian property. The tickets that were issued
in/around Motel 6 (but NOT on the highway) are not valid because they were
issued on private property. The HP had no jurisdiction. Remember, these are
not substantiated, so don't tear them up just yet. Don't think that we have
forgotten about them, we're working on it. Story is, some members of the law
enforcement community have a hunk missing out of their derrier.

Sorry guys, Let's hope the Barney Fife's will be held in check next year.
