TOY: Stock Toyota Axles SUCK!
Thnak You., now that tI have your Undevided attention, here are some
facts I have experienced in the development of my '85 Mini Truck.
The fallowing is what i found when i pulled my axles out of my truck
for and upgrade. Please keep in mind I am a hard core wheeler, and
have a vehicle equipted with ARB's and a Marlin Crawler and was
running 33 Mud T/a's.
That said, upon removing my front and rear axles I found they were
both bent. the way they were bent surprised me. on both axles the
wheels had moved forward. Upon closer examination I found that the
wheels had moved forward, and the differential with all that force
on the outer points had bent backwards. To give you an Number of how
much I placed a "Straight" rod (with no more than .001" bend from end
to end)into the ends of the ho and cut up a diff housing so I could
measure it an the center point. the measurment on both axles was
more than 1/4". what a SURPRISE to me!!!!!
I also had a chance to examine my rear housing I gave to a friend
tonight, and he showed me where it was CRACKED and CRUSHED at the
pasenger side Rear spring pearch.
I have always used my Toy to play like it was intended, and have
never driven it fast (off road) or jumped it, only ever rock
rockcrawled it. So with this new tidbit, I would look at those
housings a little more closely, cuz I Gaurentee you there are a lot
more out there like it......
and For the record, they definatly DON'T SUCK.... I wheeled my for 5
year with locked and a crawler not to mention the other 330,000 MILES
that are on the truck..... but I'm really liking my DANA 60 (full
Floater) with TOYOTA DIFFERENTIAL a lot More.......
Happy Wheeling,
The Crazy Canadian
