TOY: Factory Toyota Electric Locker enroute to me! : ^)
Okay folks,
For those of you which are interested, my electric locker is on its way to
me!
Thank You, Scott Tate! You are "the" Toyota Parts man, IMHO. : ^ )
==> Note: my local Toyota Dealer would sell me the Locker "parts"
individually, I.e. washer, gasket, switch, solenoid, housing, etc. Mucho
$$$.
Where as, Scott Tate did me Right. He sold me complete assemblies, similar
to what Karl Bellve used in his Electric Locker install.
However, I will Not have to Modify anything! : ^)
Yes, I will be swapping out complete axle assembly, I never said
inexpensive, just easy to install. ; ^)
I will be documenting the Install and taking 35mm color photos of each step
of the installation process. [ any magazines or on-line entities interested
in this?]
Anyway, this install will be into my 1997 Tacoma, 2.7L 4WD. Yes, I know the
ring gears are different. That is why I bought the Axle housing, complete
electric locking differential already set-up with the stock gears ( for 31"
tires).
I will be re-using my rear axles and bearings (only 32,700 miles on
vehicle).
The Oil seals will be replaced with new ones. This is a fairly straight
forward modification, at least the way that I am going about it only $$$.
Not too bad though considering that I will not have to set up the
differential.
Oh, BTW I will have a Stock rear differential from a '97 Tacoma available
soon,
as well as the stock Axle housing.
I will keep y'all posted on the Locker install progress.
Happy Trails,
Dee
