TOY: 3rd members

 I am beginning to look for parts to do a solid axle swap on my lifted 86 
toy. I know that the rear end of an 85 axle is 3 inches shorter than an 86 
(correct me if I'm wrong) would the 3rd members be interchangeable between 85 
and 86 or is the ring gear smaller on the 85. I was thinking  of selling my 
86 and waiting for the right truck to come along. (an 85 or 84 pick up or 
4runner in basically any condition except for rolled) but I figured I have to 
much invested in this one and see what kind of $ it will take for the swap. 
Any kind of help is greatly appreciated!
