I just put a 1"er on mine.  We had some 2" SS round stock laying back in the
shop at work which I cut to length, and drilled.  I think that 1" will get
me back to about stock height after the additional weight of the Supra
engine, the new ARB bumper, and the winch.

I don't know how much 1/2" will actually gain you, but why not!  It really
is not that hard to install... you could probably have it on in less than 2
hours without a problem.
