I'm recalling this from the dim recesses of my memory, but there was a guy
on the old ORC BBS from SLO (enough acronyms for ya?) that was selling a
dually axle converted to run single wheels, using the spindle and front
hubs off a solid axle truck. I don't remember if it took modification to
get the spindles and whatnot on the axle, or if it also required custom
stuff like different length axle shafts. All I really remember is that
there was someone who had this axle sitting and ready to go.

Again, from what I remember, this guy said the single-wheel-converted
dually axle was 3" wider than an IFS rear axle (therefor 6" over a solid
axle rearend). I'd believe that, since the rear ends are pretty wide on
the duallies.
