Supra Swap
As an addition to this month's article, I made some real progress on the
swap today! I went to the junkyard today to search for parts that would
work a little better than the parts from the Supra as far as the radiator
and the intake plumbing are concerned.
I found an '84 Cressida and bought the radiator and the airbox/air flow
meter/hoses. It turns out that the airbox and the associated plumbing are
almost a prefect fit for the truck! All I need to do is cut a small
clearance hole in the bottom of the original battery tray area, drill a few
holes to bolt the thing down and that part is completed!
I also temporarily fixed the radiator into the engine bay to see how things
would work out. I have to offset it to the passenger side because it is
just a little too wide and also runs into the steering box like the Supra
radiator did, but it fits! I can even use the original bolt holes on the
driver's side! I had to cut the upper radiator hose a little bit, but it is
almost perfect too!
This swap is really falling into place, and the parts that I have been
worrying about for a while now are all but worked out! The fit and finish
of everything is going to look very factory - almost like it was designed to
fit in the truck's engine bay!
It is looking more and more like I am actually going to make GSMTR - which I
have been worried about missing again this year. If all goes well I think I
may actually be able to fire the new engine up by the end of the week, or
sometime next week!
