I have this mental image of a tube, heater hose inlets and outlets
on it, with another tube coiled inside it, such that the engine heat
in the coolant is transferred to the inside coiled tube (probably
copper) with a little RV water pump. I think this is basically what
is involved in most of the aftermarket shower units; from what I've
read and seen, by the time you fabricate all this, you're going to
be in it as much in materials as the cost of an aftermarket shower
kit. If anyone already has the equipment and experience to
solder all this together (plumbers come to mind, I'm not much of
one) they could probably do it for less money, and more time.
I haven't tried yet, though... I'm pretty sure I can do it, I usually just
go home for a nice hot shower (and a comfy bed) after 'wheeling.
But it's been a while since I've spent more than one or two days
on the trail without returning to civilization in between.
