I'm building my own too, but I'm taking a different approach;
Using 0.120" wall cromoly tubing.
Welding in grade-8 large-truck duallie lug nuts, in place of threading the tube,
      they fit 3/4" rod ends just right.
Grade-8, 9 or 12 fastening hardware should be good enough.
