JPOR: Used gear set questions

Hey all, I purchased a used 4.89 D44 gear set on ebay and when the
seller was packing it, they noticed some hairline cracks in the pinion
gear, so they returned my money but also sent the gears.  I am trying to
find out if they might be usable.  Supposedly, they were installed in a
Jeep for a week and removed for a lower gear set (5.13).  I was going to
bring them to Carquest and have them magnafluxed to see the extent of
the cracks, but Carquest says they need to magnatize the gear as part of
the process, but can't demagnatize it.  Any suggestions?  The tiny
hairline cracks are all on the tooth face about 1/4" in from the outer
edge (radius) of each tooth.  They travel from the top of the tooth
towards the bottom of the tooth (bottom being between the teeth) and a
number of the teeth show this hairline crack.  Jeff
