JPOR: Shaved pigs...



Steve Friend has a great article on shaving down a Dana 60 diff to get
more ground clearance on www.jeepwire.com this month. Anyone who's been
thinking about this should take a look at it. The article is at

Steve, that's a great tip about the welding rod that doesn't require
pre-heating. It's spendy, but I may have to pick some up for
emergencies. I know what Jason was talking about when he said that Dana
diff castings are more like a forging. Dana uses cast nodular iron. Cast
nodular is a lot more ductile and a lot easier to weld to versus plain
old gray cast iron. As I understand it, the main reason is that the
carbon inclusions in cast nodular are round nodules and in cast iron
they are flat flakes.

I may have to do this to my Dana 44s :)
