Conventional wisdome from the list and magazine articles say that unless you've
put the little paddles inside your D300, or unless you have rear locking hubs,
you will need to remove your rear driveshaft.

Personally, I would think that if the t18 can take it, I don't know why you
couldn't just put the t18 in neutral and leave the D300 in 2hi.  If the input
shaft on the tcase is spinning, the D300 should be ok (how is this any different
than when you are driving?).  Any t18 experts will have to weigh in on the
wisdom of doing this.
