RE: JPOR: home made on board welders
I have a 110amp alternator from a late '80's Continental that came with a
5.0L engine. Lots of whistles and bells in that car! The case is bigger
than a standard alternator.

There is a nice write up at Pirates of the Rubicon
website
(http://pirate4x4.com/index2.html ) about making your own on
board
welder using a Ford Alternator. The Ford is desirable
since it has
an external voltage regulator. Any one know what Ford
vehicle would
have a higher amp alternater (like 105 amps). JC Whitney
has kits
to convert lower amp Ford alternators to 105 A for about
$40. Any
one know it these are any good?
Thanks
