RE: JPOR: Towing a Cherokee

I'm not sure. It is a friends Jeep and I am asking for him. It is a 94.

If you have a vaccuum disconnect front axle, you should be ok, but you want
to
shift the transfer case into neutral AFTER the engine is turned off. The
idea
is verify that it is in 2wd with the front axle disconnected (you should be
able
to rotate the driveshaft by hand), turn off the engine, then put the
transfer
case in neutral. Once it is in neutral, the front and rear driveshafts are
connected, just as in 4wd.
I don't think it would be possible for the vac disco to connect without any
vaccuum present, but perhaps someone can verify.... that would be a BAD
thing,
particularly if your front wheels are attached to a tow dolly!
Mo's suggestion of pulling the rear shaft would be a definite safe way to
go.
BTW, I've made the assumption here that you have a Command-trac Cherokee,
not a
Select-trac.
