There used to a write up on doing just what your asking at this page :

But it looks like its down at the this time. But it does have an email link and
you could perhaps email him and find out how he did. I beleive he machined an
adapter that bolted to the axle and then bolted the spindle on using studs that
were pressed in the adapter. He had custom shafts made. Don't recall what he did
at the lock out.
