I've had ball joints go bad in a year. Check them by jacking up the
front and and having a friend pry on the tires with a 2x4 while you
look for relative movement betweent he inner and outer knuckles. Any
movement is bad.
Bad ball joints don't make the front end pull. They will definitley
lead to cupped tires after a while. They can also make the steering
loose or contribute to wobble and shake, but if you have good shocks
and well balanced tires you might not even see much of that.
Basically, just get in there and strart prying on stuff looking for
anythign that's worn.
BTW, you might also want to check for stiff front axle shaft U-joints.
