JPOR: Rear shock mount recommendations.

Hey All!

I'll try to make my question as short as possible.  On my project CJ-7, I'm 
currently working on the shock mounts for the rear.  I'm swapping in a pair 
of axles from a F-100, so I'm basically starting from scratch with the shock 
mounts.

I see two ways of mounting the rear shocks:

1.  Extend a mount up into the wheelwell (lots of clearance for this) so 
that the shock body mounts vertical.

2.  Build a crossmember above the rear axle and angle the tops of the shocks 
inboard to mount onto this crossmember.

What do you guys think of the above ideas?  Anyone got any other ideas?
