Or do like the rest of us. Fill the tank up before it gets that low. If
the rubber hose on the end of the pick-up tube fell off, that would do it.

Thanks for all the feedback. Courtney had some good Ideas about the
pick up tube sucking air, and the 15/20 gallon tank was interesting to
read about from Obi-Wan. It isn't a baffle, the tank was in remarkably
good shape. Infact it looked brand new from the inside. The gauge,
while jumpy from a bad ground, is somewhat accurate. From what I can
tell, I'm going to check the section of fuel hose that joins the steel
tubing on the pick up tube, which is part of the sending unit.
Otherwise this sounds like a fairly common problem with these years
('88) of wranglers. I feel if I replace the sending unit, which
includes the pick up tube and fuel pump, I may only have the same
problem. Don't turn left on a 1/4 tank of gas!
