Look at the bright side... if you do the knuckle bit on your D30, you can just
keep that stuff when you do go to a D44.  If you go with 297 shafts, the stubs
will be retained on a D44, but your custom 297 inners won't be used.  If you
stay with 260's, you'll want to upgrade to 297 stubs with a D44 (the method
that may 'waste' the least amount of $$ as long as you don't go bustin'
joints).
