RE: JPOR: XJ Questions
I've read in a magazine recently about a way to get rid of the C-clip
problem. Did anyone else read the article and what was the fix. I think a
company was selling some sort of aftermarket set up.

I've seen a few of the D35 C-clip axles give out at the C-clip groove... not
a
fun trail fix. Saw one on the Rubicon a few years ago - was a guy from Warn
with a YJ. He borrowed a cordless drill from one of the guys in my group
and
drilled the end of the axle and installed a bolt and washer to hold the axle
in
place so he could limp out. Didn't see exactly how he did it, so I don't
know
if he tapped the hole, or just JB welded it in there.
In the case of the Exploder 8.8 with rear discs (or if you converted a D35
to
discs), the caliper will keep the axle from departing the scene in the event
of
a C-clip failure.
Yes, the Mopar 8.25 is a C-clip design, too. :(
Is the Warn kit worth $600? IMHO, it is - on a D44, D60, 9" or 8.8".
Personally, I wouldn't invest that much into the D35 though. They still
have
weak axle tubes, smaller R&P and I'm not a fan of the crush sleeve pinion
depth
adjustment either... makes yoke changes and pinion seal replacements a PIA.
I'd rather have a semi-floating D44 than a full-floating D35 in my rig. As
a
matter of fact, I _do_ have a semi-floating D44 in my XJ now... and it
didn't
cost $600 either. ;)
