All the new main/rod bearings I've ever seen are a flat silver-gray color when
new... I believe the material over the copper that gives them this color is
babbit.
I'm with the croud that says pull the crank and take it to a machine shop and
have it checked (since you don't have a micrometer) and turned if needed
(sounds like it will).
