Yup.  Replaced it once & got no noise or anything.  Replaced it
again (same brand, same store) and got the grinding noise again.
I decided from that that my solenoid was not the problem, so I
returned both new solenoids and am back to using the stock one.

Yeah, that noise was new to me, too.  I'll double check the ignition
switch & wire tonight.

Hotwiring which part of it to where?  You mean the wire that goes
to the ignition switch?  I haven't tried hotwiring any of it yet.
Should the ignition switch wire provide 12V (ie, can I hotwire it
directly to the battery)?
