JPOR: Slow List/Trip Report

Date: Monday, May 22, 2000
Time: 1800
Location: "Short-cut" to the groccery store
Participants: Courtney, Perk

While performing hunter/gatherer duties, it was vivid that a trip to the
groccery store would be required. Instead of driving down - across - and up
the road for a 2.5 mile "U" shaped one-way trip, I chose to take the .75
mile short-cut to the store. The short-cut is usually a blazing-fast drive
down a bladed road. Recent construction caused a slight detour tonight.
After .25 mile down the bladed road, the trail was demolished by a
grader/blade. Thus begins the journey:

The groccery store - and dinner, was almost insight. Hunger had set-in
days earlier, and there was no time to waste. With the A/C on recirculate
and "high", we carfefully plowed ahead. The normal hard-pack desert had
been turned into mulch by a grader and blade last week. The path in front
of us had been bi-sected and the soil was soft - and multiple rows of
ditches didn't look like fun. With quick and deft skill, Courtney carefully
manuevered his well equiped TJ across the native Southern Nevada desert.
This isn't your normal desert - this area is covered with pumkin/watermelon
sized volc anic rock. The TJ was put in 4L for the slow trek across the
moonscape terrain. After adjusting the volume of the radio, and arguing
over the A/C setting, we continued over the black rocks that stood between
us and the groccery store. BOOM! "Ouch, that one hurt", I exclaimed, after
a large, vicious rock jumped out in front of the lower front right control
arm. After many minutes of slow crawling, we made it through the rock
garden, and onto pavement - and the store!

BTW: Perk made me write this.
