JPOR: Ball joints

Hi guys!  Got my front Dana 44 completely stripped tonight, Chad dropped by
and we played with a sand blaster for a while(not sure the cheap home models
are worth it after that) and then he helped me get the knuckles off my front
end.  When we got them off we found there is a screw in sleeve that one of
the balljoint goes into on each side.  Any hints on how these should be set
up? Obviously it's there to adjust preload or something?
