I know the TJ has a different knuckle than the earlier D30 jeeps, I'm
not sure if that applies to the XJ as well.  What you may want to look
into is purchasing the weld on mounts for the D44 from Rubicon Express,
they are either $300 or $600 (can't remember which, I was looking at
them for one of my TJ's and I can't remember if they were $600 for both
ends or one), if you (or someone you know) is a competant welder you can
buzz them on and be done.
