JPOR: 4.3 swap, the final update
I got to trail test the 4.3 yesterday and even got in a couple of miles
of street time. It worked great. I couldn't be happier with the motor. I
don't think it gave up any low end torque vs the 258 and it has the same
ability to lug down to almost no RPM and keep going. The fuel injection
was a big plus and very noticable on hills. Power on the street in high
range was way up over the 258. I finally put in a front locker last
week, so that probably contributed to the better trail performance too.
My Jeep could leave for Moab as it is right now, but there are still a
few dozen minor things I need to do like put a top on it and mount a
spare tire carrier so I don't have to carry it inside.
I also seem to have taken a lot of weight off my Jeep. I pulled one leaf
out of each of my packs last week and after the trail ride it had
settled to just where I want it. Unfortunatley it was a little hoppy
(still better than last year), but I think that's becuase I had my RS9s
still set at 1 for easy install. I'll check that today.
