Re: JPOR: Front axle Q's

No, the Ford stub axles won't be 27 spline, but the CJ/Scout ones are. Ford (&
GM) are less... I forget the # off-hand - 16? There is little -if any-
difference between the F-150 rotor and the early CJ "thick" rotor, and they can
be interchanged. Same with the calipers. Scout calipers are also similar, but
use a larger banjo fitting. They will interchange as long as you swap brake
lines, too. The GM backing plate/caliper bracket will work on the early CJ
disc brake or drum brake knuckles, but I don't think they'll fit the later disc
brake knuckles (OEM caliper braket gets in the way, if I remember right). You
can use the GM-Delco calipers with thick (early) CJ/F-150/Scout rotors and they
do work better than the Bendix calipers used with the above mentioned rotors.
You can use just about any D44 knuckle-out with a CJ (or Scout) D30, you just
need to be sure your stub shaft matches the application... and if you use Scout
knuckles, you need a longer pitman arm (which usually means a relocated
steering box) or you'll lose turning radius because the have LONG steering
arms.

If all this is about rear calipers, it is generally considered these calipers
are too strong for the rear - unless you're running 40" tires or bigger.
Running these with smaller tires and an adjustable proportioning valve is
do-able, but the adjustment becomes hairline in getting the right balance.
Rear calipers of choice are usually the "metric" Delco (S-10 front's) if you
don't need an e-brake feature, or 79-8? El Dorado/Riviera/Toronado rear
calipers (same braketry is used with these and the "metric") or some off a
Lincoln (don't know the year, but they'd be ones with an e-brake feature -
later FoMoCo's used a little drum inside the rotor - like Exploders).
