RE: JPOR: Kicker shocks
I like Bill Cue's anti-wrap bar, but as mentioned before, unless
it is precisely located where the axle would "pivot", it'll limit
articulation. Even though the "Cue Bar" can rotate and lengthen/shorten,
it describes a different arc than the imaginary pivot point in
the center of the axle housing.
If there were some way to attach a fixed (no movement up or down)
bar to the top of the center of the housing and the other end
to right above the t-case yoke (so that it'll almost perfectly
shadow the driveshaft), then the facets of the cue-bar could
be utilized without binding. A driveshaft safety loop could
also be attached to it if one were so inclined.
Later,
Ed T.

|Something just occurred to me on this topic. Under high torque,
|high traction conditions, like climbing up a rock step or something,
|axle wrap can be a problem too, right? If the springs on either
|end can twist up enough (slowly, over a period of several seconds),
|then our poor driveshaft u-joints are in just as much danger
as
|from the fast, bunny-hop kind of axle wrap.
|
|In cases like that, a kicker shock won't help at all - it'll
just
|slowly compress or extend as the springs twist up. Bang!
|
|Makes a stronger case for the anti-wrap bar approach, maybe?
