Instead of welding to the nodular iron (in Dana axles anyway) diff housing, you
can build a "bridge" bracket to go over it - similar to what Warn does for
their rear set-up in the Black Diamond coil-over kits. I've also seen a couple
of folks run a plate sandwiched between the back of the diff and the cover -
but seems to me that would put a lot of stress on those little bolts that hold
the cover on. (Though the ones I've seen like this were all on D60's - but
still, those cover bolts aren't very big.)
With my old CJ and its offset rear, I figure a single upper link, mounted in
the middle ought to do the trick nicely... and that'll just be welding the
mounting bracket to the axle tube. :)
