Equal, the great substitute

OK, here goes nothin.  What do you guys know about Equal?  No, not the
sweetener, the tire balancing powder that large trucks use to balance their
tires?  I ask this for a couple reasons.  I have 10" rims on my CJ and NO
money for new 8" rims to protect my weights.  Also, I thought about just
getting the tape on weights that would be completely out of the way, but if
my tire slips a bit when aired down I don't want to be 4 hours from home with
my Jeep's wheels out of balance and me trying to flat tow it in the
mountains.  I'd heard that some people weren't sure how it'd hold up to
moisture, but has anyone actually tried it and found out for themselves, or
am I going to need to be the test dummy? LOL
