Project Comanche Suspension Lift
The first step in my budget Jeep buildup is typical: a suspension lift and larger tires. The old 30" take-offs were replaced with 33" BFG MTs, and a Tuff Country 3.5" lift kit from Suspension Connection was bolted on to clear them. The kit is reasonably priced, yet still properly engineered. Lower priced Cherokee/Comanche lift kits do not account for changes in suspension geometry, and high end kits cost more than the purchase price of the Comanche! Like the little bear's porridge, the Tuff Country suspension lift is just right. |

Project Comanche
A built trail rig is great for weekends on the Rubicon, but it is not always the most practical vehicle. This is where my 1987 Jeep Comanche pickup comes in. The Comanche, with leaky motor and rear Dana 44, has served me well as a daily driver, parts runner, and mild wheeler for years. The years have taken their toll on the Comanche. Follow along as we transform a stock Comanche into a vehicle suited for any situation. |
