Allen is a member of the Red Rock Four Wheelers and
can show up almost anywhere in Utah with the XJ packed with gear, his wife Janene
and their 4 kids. Actually his oldest son, Nate, is usually following them these days in his
own 1987 Jeep Comanche. Allen purchased the XJ after tiring of his trusty old Ramcharger
being not so trustworthy. He wanted a rig that could haul his family and camping gear, and
still tackle extreme trails. Even built like it is, Janene uses the XJ for her daily driver.
Editor's notes
I first met Allen in 1997, just after installing
the first lift (3") on my Cherokee. It was back in the days when aftermarket parts were
scarce for XJs with 3" lifts and 31" tires were on the cutting edge of available XJ mods.
Slip yoke eliminator kits weren't even on the market yet. Allen
was already sporting over 5 inches of lift and 33" tires and driving the most hard core XJ
I imagined would ever be made. I learned a lot back in those days, both about building XJs
and driving trails.
