Allright, after some time of driving my truck and trying to figure out why it stutters and chops when engagning and disengaging the clutch. I've come to the conlusion that the clutch disc is glazed and the parts are just worn out. Now im looking online and I found this Clutch Kits for my 89 Yota (Very top one "Exedy")And I see that is says Exedy is 160ish dollars. Now is that everything I would need for a 100K+ Replacement, and are those all the usual parts you should replace when putting in a new clutch (Dont know all the components of a Manual, Im use to Chevy TH-350's lol)
Looks like the kit comes with a throw out bearing/Pressure plate/Clutch disc and 2 other parts im unfamiliar with. Question is, is this a good kit that covers all parts that should be replaced for a 100K tune up, and hows that price look to all of you? Thanks =)

$65+20 for shipping ain't bad! it comes with everything you need -- the disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and the pilot bearing.

i've got one in my beater and it works great, and i think i'll be buying one for my dd as the clutch is going out and it's almost boat towing season <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

I'm in the process of replacing my clutch and tranny on my 92.

The shudder your experiencing could very well be a bad input shaft pilot bearing which you always replace when you do a clutch along with the throw out bearing and check/replace the crankshaft rear main seal while you're in there.

I'm told by my local dealership that they only offer OEM re-manufactured, so I'm looking into an aftermarket as well.

I've narrowed it down to two, centerforce II or Marlin Crawler's HD 1600lb clutch package, both are excellent quality.

Just a head's up on the Centerforce II, which I've seen first hand, uses "Exedy's" clutch/friction disc, which is made in Japan and a very high quality disc.

When I pickup my tranny from Marlin in a few weeks I will have a look at his clutch and decide then.

From what I gather from my searches on the web as well as here on the 4x4wire, you can't go wrong with either of the 2.

if there's a chatter when pushing on the pedal, it's generally the throwout bearing going south.

i have a question... my tranny/clutch chatters while the clutch is NOT engaged. as sson as I depress the clutch pedel it stops what could that be??

Do not forget to have your flywheel re-surfaced at a automotive machine shop or all the work you do changing it will be for nothing. One of the reasons the clutches chatter is the flywheel get "hot spots" which causing glazed spots on the disc. Another is oil contamination from a leaking rear seal or tranny input shaft seal. Things you always do when you change a clutch, new clutch disc and pressure plate, new throw-out bearing, new pilot bearing, and re-surface the flywheel.

I have had a Centerforce I clutch in my rig for seven years of hard wheeling and it still works great. On the trail, I do not have to use the clutch that much because of the dual cases and 4:70s in the rear case putting my crawl ratio at about 206-1.

pilot bearing will only spin when the clutch pedal is pressed. could be the input bearing in the tranny, but that'd make more of a grinding noise.

nope its not the pilot bearing. the pilot bearing spins only when you press in the clutch. i have the same problem. i was told it is my throwout bearing or my transmission input shaft bearing. my rattling goes away if i even press in the clutch 1/4". a lot of people said dont worry about it and it wont affect anything.
