Diesel engine running in.

I have the reconditioned engine for my Pajero about to be installed. Anyone know how I should run it in? I have heard that gentle driving can cause the bores to 'glaze' causing high oil consumption and requiring a re-hone to rectify. Something I want to avoid. It's a 4D56T going into a 1990 LWB, and I have Pennizoil running in oil for the first fill.
Now it's reconditioned I'm really looking forward to having most of the combustion take place in the cylinders instead of the crankcase as before!
