Jim,
I'll check diameter when I get home. But as I said earlier it very common socket. If you go to any auto parts store (Advanced,Autozone) amongst some other spindle nut sockets you can find one for 1/2 axle with 4 pins and one of slightly larger diameter for 3/4-1 ton axle with 6 pins. They usually are only kind with sticking out pins. I've been looking at those for a while since they appeared to have about right diameter. Initially I bought one with 4 pins (1/2 ton) but as soon as I got home I saw it was a bit too small. I went back and exchanged it for 6 pins. It was the right one.
